CCTV HDCVI Overview

High Definition Composite Video Interface (HDCVI), Dahua’s in-house technology with patented Intellectual Property Rights, is an over-coaxial-cable analog HD video standard that allows long-distance HD transmission at friendly cost to meet the requirements for complex and large installations. 

CCTV HDCVI technology provides complete end-to-end solutions for upgrading traditional analog systems seamlessly and for building reliable high definition video surveillance systems. As ‘High Definition’ indicates, HDCVI technology features high resolution of 4MP/1080P/720P and even up to 4K, leading the pace of the market to meet customers’ increasing requirements for higher definition. As ‘Composite’ indicates, HDCVI technology transmits video, audio, data and even power over one coaxial cable according to signal modulation/demodulation and equalization technology. HDCVI surveillance system inherits all advantages of traditional analog surveillance system, especially ‘Simplicity’, which means Plug & Play, using existing cabling, compatible with different video formats etc. Furthermore, HDCVI technology enables long transmission distance up to 1200m, making system deployment more adaptable and flexible.

CCTV HDCVI Roadmap

HDCVI was launched in November 2012, and Dahua released the first generation of HDCVI products in 2013, including a complete product portfolio. By 2014, a second generation of cameras and hybrid coax digital video recorders (DVRs) was launched along with “HD-over-coax 2.0.” By the first half of 2015, Dahua had increased transmission distances and brought full HD solutions to the entry-level series which means redefining the admittance criterion of HD over coax market and leading more customers to choose higher resolution surveillance systems. Dahua’s solutions are designed to be scalable and modular to provide flexible configuration options. At the very beginning of 2016, Dahua is ready to push HDCVI technology one step further with “HDCVI 3.0”. This dedicated revolution features 4 attributes, namely full compatibility, ultra HD, intelligence and simplicity.

Why CCTV HDCVI

In the 1970s, the first CCTV analog system was introduced in the market. In the 2000s, embedded DVR was invented and Dahua, as the pioneer in embedded technology, had lead the rapid technology shift.

In 2012, Dahua first introduced HDCVI (High Definition Composite Video Interface) technology, which brought the technological revolution over existing CCTV analog system and opened the new era of HD CCTV.

High Definition

HDCVI technology supports high resolution of 4 Megapixel/1080P/720P, and HDCVI 3.0 is first to bring 4 megapixel/UHD (4K) resolution into a system that uses coaxial cabling.

4 Signals over 1 Coaxial Cable

HDCVI technology supports 4 signals (audio, video, data and power) to be transmitted simultaneously over 1 coaxial cable.

HDCVI camera offers high resolution video, supports audio interface or built-in mic and communicates with HCVR through control signals. Moreover, POC module is available for integrated power-supply requirements. That’s why HDCVI camera is able to realize multiple signal in single cable and further simplifies the installation and deployment in the surveillance system.

Long Distance Transmission

HDCVI technology guarantees long-distance and real-time transmission without any signal loss. Based on real-scene test in Dahua’s test laboratory, it supports 1200m, 800m and 700m signal transmission for 720P, 1080P and 4MP respectively via RG6 coaxial cable, and 800m, 500m and 500m for 720P, 1080P and 4MP respectively via RG59 coaxial cable. With a CAT6 UTP cable, the transmission distance reaches up to 450m for 720P and 300m for 1080P and 4MP respectively.

Seamless Upgrade

For customers who already applied analog surveillance system which no longer meets the requirement of HD video surveillance, it may be complicated, costly or even impossible to change the existing cabling to upgrade. HDCVI system can be seamlessly upgraded from traditional analog systems simply by replacing the old devices by HDCVI cameras and HCVRs, without changing the current environment, and at applicable labor and cost.

New HDCVI 3.0 technology is compatible with five major technologies available on the video market, and can unify multiple technologies into a single system. It is backwards compatible with existing standard definition analog systems, and systems can accept inputs from IP cameras. In addition, HDCVI 3.0 is compatible with competing HD-over-coax technologies HDTVI and AHD.
